4Buyer beware of misleading product title!
By M. Yee
This headset works satisfactorily. HOWEVER, the connection is via analog stereo miniplugs, NOT through USB as the product title states. For an analog connection, the set works well enough. However, for about $10 more, you can upgrade to the LX-3000, which IS the USB-connecting headset.

UPDATE ON 12/8/08: It looks like Amazon fixed the product title, which no longer claims that this headset is USB. As advertised, then, I would probably up the star rating to a 3 or 4 because these headphones work as you would expect any analog connection to work: sound quality that is just "good" (not great and certainly not crystal clear) and mic quality that is only satisfactory for basic microphone functions where recording quality is not a concern.

5Works great
By Franz Urbaniak
For an analog headset, they are very comfortable and the sound quality is great, both directions. What impresses me is the mic: it picks up my voice very well (with the mic boost in the + position) but doesn't pic up background noise. Also, my gripe with many headsets is they are tight to my head, which after a while causes a headache. These are loose, and since they are over the ears that's fine (ie, they won't fall off).

1Pinches Ears
By Z. Boatright
Look at the picture of this headset very carefully. Note that the molded plastic that wraps around your ear from the head phones appears to have a VERY narrow opening. This results in the plastic frame pinching you as it wraps around your ears. The pain becomes more noticeable the longer you wear them. Additionally, the wrap-around plastic piece has numerous design flaws that result in other painful experiences while wearing the product. 1) The plastic frame has very sharp edges along the ear side of the wrap-around frame that digs into your skin. 2) The collapsing hinge points on the frame regularly crimps and grabs hair. This may not be an issue if you're bald, but as someone with hair I've had numerous experiences where taking the headset off my head has resulted in also pulling out hairs. Seriously. 3) The pinching issue noted above and first in combination with everything else makes these headphones completely unwearable.

This is the second pair of these that I've purchased and my experience has been bad both times. I thought my first negative experience might have been a manufacturing defect on my first pair but I've now learned that it's just a poorly designed product. It's been on the market for nearly three years, and hasn't changed at all in that entire time. Microsoft really needs to review this product and make some serious considerations about the design. Human beings need to wear this product and not have continuous pain while doing so... this seems kind of obvious to me but clearly it needed to be said.

I bought these instead: Logitech Gaming Headset G330 (Black)
Logitech's product is easily the best in class for this style of wrap-around headset. I would never buy this Microsoft headset ever again or recommend it to anyone.
